Through hardened rules have a uniformity high hardness on the cutting edge and in the body. Special heat treatment gives these rules a particular grain structure and a soft, ductile outer skin, which facilitates the required bend-ability. The cutting edge is usually shaved (longitudinally worked), with a very high dimensional accuracy.
Edge hardened rules, in addition to the properties of the through-hardened rules, they are subjected to induction hardening of the cutting edge. These rules therefore, provide an excellent wear resistance and long die life. Available with drawn, ground and polished cutting edge finishes.
